Easthampstead Golf Club is a friendly, sociable club consisting of two independent golf clubs, a Men’s and a Ladies’ Club, both based at the well regarded Downshire Golf Complex, near Bracknell in Berkshire. The Complex is owned by Bracknell Forest Council with day-to-day management and operation by Everyone Active. Facilities include an 18 hole championship golf course, a driving range and a pitch-and-putt course alongside its clubhouse facility and well stocked golf shop.
Our aim is to provide an affordable opportunity for our members to enjoy regular competitive and friendly golf, as well as a calendar of varied and enjoyable social events. Competitions run throughout the year, with regular weekend competitions (some Saturday, some Sunday), as well as regular mid-week competitions and friendly games. Members will also have the opportunity to play in external competitions (both clubs are members of the NAPGC).
New members of all ages are always welcome, whether they are experienced golfers or people new to the game. The Club offers subsidised Golf coaching with the PGA Pro's at the Complex for those looking to improve their game. There is currently no joining fee for the Men’s Club (new members only having to pay the annual membership fee of £80), while Ladies pay a joining fee £35 plus an annual subscription of only £50. In addition the Men’s club has a thriving junior section which provides under-18 boys and girls with the opportunity to learn the game and play in junior competitions. The Complex operates on a pay-and-play basis, so green fees have to be paid before play, but that does mean that you only have to pay for the golf that you actually play (the Complex also offers season ticket options which can be beneficial if you play regularly).

After a difficult week for the country the committee met on Thursday 19th March to assess the impact on club activities. Follow the links below to read how the club will operate in the coming weeks. Note of course that with the situation changing daily advice and decisions may change, and we shall keep members fully informed via this website and by email. Please also see the externals page (Menu: Men --> Externals) for current status regarding external competitions and COVID-19.
By the Autumn we shall all be familiar with new terms such as 'Handicap Index' and 'Slope Index'. Until then the club will be publishing (hopefully useful) introductory information about the World Handicap System (WHS) on this website. We have made a start, so we urge everyone to view the page under 'WHS' in the member's area of this site. Over the next few months we shall add more information as the club gears up for the change.
Some major changes to competition rules have been agreed by the committee and are now in force. There are many changes of detail, so we please ask all members to READ IN FULL the Rules & Etiquette page which can be found under the 'Men' menu option. To highlight some of the important points: Clarification and emphasis on penalties related to late arrivals, late withdrawals and no-shows; the introduction of penalties for starters, including potential penalties for not issuing penalties as above for players; further emphasis on reducing slow-play; the introduction of ball marking as a Club requirement. Hopefully this provides an incentive to re-read and digest the new rules page.
The 2020 Tour to Bulgaria will now be from Wednesday 16th to 23rd September and flying from/to Luton Airport. This is the last call for anyone who would like to join us as seats on the only flight available are now being booked. Any questions or if you want to book your place please ring Steve Cross, Club Treasurer ASAP.
We are delighted to share an article written by one of our junior members Lucy Bamford.
In the article Lucy talks about the support that she received from the lady members at our club which encouraged her to continue playing golf when she was learning the game.
Lucy continues to play regularly with the ladies and it is a pleasure to see how her game has improved since she joined ELGC
