|Easthampstead Golf Club|
We are an independent Golf Club, which plays at the Downshire Golf Complex near Bracknell in Berkshire. The aim of the club has always been to afford members the opportunity to play friendly and competitive golf. Club Competitions are held mainly fortnightly at weekends , with a good mix of Saturday and Sunday competitions, medal and stableford. We also have regular midweek competitions and roll ups as well as a number of matchplay knockout competitions.
During the year we have four major events, The Easter Bunny, The Open, Captains Day and The Turkey Trot, where we offer a range of goodies on the course (drinks and snacks) and excellent prizes. For more serious golf, our two main competitions are The Barry Morris (36 hole Handicap Medal) and The Club Championship (36 hole Scratch). Both are played over two days with the top 21 qualifying for the second day. The Barry Morris is also a qualifying competition for the NAPGC Men's Championship of England which is the NAPGC’s most prestigious competition.
We have a couple of matches each year against other local golf clubs, and we usually enter team(s) in a number of external competitions including the Clapham’s, the Bourne Vanneck Shield & Cup, the Hillman and the Daily Mail competitions. Along with the Ladies Club we enter a number of teams in the Hawtree competition. Most of these competitions require a handicap of less than 18 so we have special competitions against other clubs for the higher handicappers.
In common with many clubs we also have a growing seniors section, which plays a number of matches each year (home and away) against other local clubs and we host our own Seniors Open when members of other clubs can join in.
All members are eligible for an official handicap certificate which is recognised at many clubs throughout the UK. In order to gain a handicap you will need to submit three cards. Your handicap will be based on the best of the three cards you submit a maximum of 28 being the allowance for adults. If you have a handicap already you can transfer it to Easthampstead.
Members are welcome to play in all our competitions, whatever their standard. Every Thursday is a Club Night in that many members of the committee are at the club, as well as many members. It is also the night when the competition entry sheets go up on the board (although you can also enter competition via this web site). So, if you have some more questions, come along on a Thursday night. Committee members are normally there from about 8:30 until chuck-out.
